MMI Engineered Solutions Launches New Engineering Technology Lab in Saline, MI

SALINE, MI, January 12, 2010–MMI Engineered Solutions (MMI ES,
formerly Molded Materials, Inc.) announced the launch of a new 80,000
sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility in Saline, Mich. The new facility will
integrate cutting edge design, tooling and mold manufacturing
capabilities into a solutions laboratory for engineered resin and
advanced composite applications. The facility includes testing and
prototype labs, CNC machining centers, quality systems equipped with CMM
technology as well as its business offices.
“This is not just an expansion for us, it is an investment and
commitment in strategic cutting edge technology required to solve
today’s weight reduction challenges especially in the Transportation,
Military, Alternative Energy and Medical Device markets located here in
Michigan,” said Tom Elkington, Chief Technology Officer for MMI ES. “Our
new equipment provides the precision needed to successfully apply
advanced composites and engineered resins to reduce the weight, cost and
improve the performance of OEM components and material handling
applications,” Elkington added.
New investments in technology include the addition of high speed
precision CNC machines, a flexible central resin feed system and all
electric presses that increase control and repeatability while reducing
cycle times. The MMI ES Headquarters and Lab are expected to be fully
operational by the third quarter of 2010.
